Welcome to the end of week 2 of looking at the book of Genesis together, chapter
10 today, day 10 of this look through Genesis. Genesis chapter 10 is a chapter
that's filled with the genealogy of Noah's family. We saw genealogy in chapter 5
summing up Adam's family and then looking forward, also legacy.

There's genealogy looking back, there's legacy looking forward to Noah, all the
people that were born between Adam and Noah. And there's also in chapter 5, by
the way, looking all the way back to that chapter, our legacy. As you and I look
at these first 10 chapters of the book of Genesis, they really are about our
spiritual legacy.

Remember back in the first chapter of Genesis, we talked about those six things,
chapter 1 and into chapter 2, the legacy that God has given us in being our
creator. Remember we talked about the fact that it is God at the beginning. It's
God's word to start the day.

It's God's joy to end each day. It's order throughout this process creation.
It's mankind.

We created in the image of God in the center, it's rest at the end of the day,
recognizing that God is at rest in us. That's a legacy in creation. We saw the
legacy that we received from Adam, part of it, a horrible legacy, the legacy of
the fall, but also the legacy of creation and the legacy of the beginning of
God's grace even in his own life.

We saw the legacy of Cain and Abel and focused on Abel, the legacy of faith that
you see in Abel. We saw in chapter 5 the legacy of Enoch and the faith that we
can live in him walking with God. And here we are in chapter 10 and we're in
genealogy again.

If you're reading through these chapters day by day, this is one of the chapters
of the Bible that's a little more difficult to read. This person begat this
person and they live this many years. This person begat this person.

It's the begat chapters. This chapter is really a family chapter. It sums up
Noah's family and then there's legacy, how Noah's family became entire nations.

Let me just read very quickly through these verses. Genesis chapter 10 verse 1.
This is the account of Shem, Ham and Japheth, Noah's sons, who themselves had
sons after the flood.

And then verses 2 to 5 talk about the sons of Japheth. Those verses just list
those sons. And then verses 6 to 20 list the sons of Ham.

Just a list of son after son after son, his legacy. And then verses 21 to 31
list the sons of Shem. So that's this whole chapter is the sons of Noah and
their legacy.

In verse 32, these are the clans of Noah's sons according to their lines of
descent with in their nations. From these the nations spread out over the earth
after the flood. I want you to hear that word nations.

Here's three sons and all of a sudden by the end of this chapter they are
nations. This is the legacy of Noah that from one man came the nations of the
earth at this time. What a powerful legacy.

Just imagine Noah reading this and recognizing from heaven what God has done
through his life that starting with him and the faith that he shared with his
sons that was shared with their sons and their sons and their sons. So on down
to great great great great great great grandsons, Noah's story, Noah's faith is
being told and that legacy is being lived out now not just in couples, not just
in families, not just in clans, but entire nations. You and I have a faith
legacy also here, a faith legacy from the life of Noah.

Spiritual motivation, the motivational power, we've talked about it these last
few days of obedience. We saw Noah's obedience in his building of the ark of
trust. We saw Noah's trust in his getting on the ark of faithfulness.

We saw Noah's faithfulness in his living on that ark for over a year and of
worship. We saw Noah's motivational power in the worship that he expressed to
God as he got off that ark. If I want to live a motivated life, I need to live
with obedience, trust, faithfulness and worship.

That is the essence of a motivated life. You've got a spiritual motivation from
the life of Noah. But there's also legacy in your life here.

As we look at Noah's life and realize that down through the years a whole nation
eventually came out of this one man. Whole clans and tribes and nations came
from the investment of the lives of these sons of Noah. What about your legacy?

I don't know how long until Jesus Christ comes again, but what if it were 100
years? What if it were 500 years? I hope he comes quickly, but what if it were
longer?

It's going to come when he wants to come. What legacy, what spiritual legacy are
you leaving? The little things that you and I are doing now, the difficult
things that we're doing now, the day-by-day things that we're doing now, those
are leaving more of a legacy for the future than we could possibly imagine.

Just as whole nations came from these three sons of Noah, just think of the
whole movements of faith or the whole incredible purposes of God that might come
out of the way that you choose to live for God, legacy. Many times I just think
about what's going to happen through my life in that I am investing my life here
looking forward to the legacy I'm leaving in eternity. That's our greatest
legacy is that we're making an investment in heaven and whatever we do on this
earth, but you're also leaving a legacy on this earth and you don't know how
it's going to be seen.

You don't know in what ways it's going to be seen, but it's my prayer for you
that in the little faith steps that you take each day that no one may ever see
that there will be a legacy that is built out of that that will go to the
nations, that God will work in ways through your life that you could have never
imagined here in this world and all the way into eternity. The legacy of you
taking your resources and using them in a way that pleases and serves God. The
legacy of you taking your gifts and using them in a way that pleases and serves
God.

The legacy of your sacrificial love. As we talk to God for a few moments today,
let's talk to him about legacy. Jesus Christ, thank you for the legacy of faith
that you've given us.

You show us the way and our lives are about following you and there's no greater
legacy that we could leave in our lives than of helping people to follow you. In
many ways, Jesus, if they never knew our name, but knew your name better, that's
the legacy that we would like to leave. Can we pray today that you'd help us to
plant seeds of faith, recognizing that down through the years, things will
happen through those seeds of faith, lives will be changed, hearts will be
turned, people will be saved, the hungry will be fed, the weak will be made
strong in ways that we would never know.

Jesus, as we put faith in you today, help us to recognize that you're doing
things in this earth that we don't even understand. Leave a legacy through our
gifts of faith. Lord, also leave a legacy in heaven.

As we invest our lives here, we pray that the echoes of that would be
strengthened in heaven so we see things in heaven that we would have never seen.
We see people in heaven we never would have seen because we've been faithful to
serve you. Lord, help me to live my life in such a way that I leave a legacy of
faith, hope, and love.

I pray this, Jesus, in your name, amen. And join us next week. We're going to be
looking at Genesis chapters 11 to 15.

Faith of Abraham.
