Proverbs 10 verse 9 talks about integrity. Have you noticed how your stomach
turns into knots when you tell a lie?

We're dishonest for a lot of reasons. We're dishonest because we might fear how
we would appear. We might be nervous about what others would think of us.

We might be scared of how something might impact us unless we lie about it. But
when it comes right down to it, we usually lie. I've discovered as I've talked
with people that they usually lie because they think it's going to make things
better.

We see the advantage. We think we see the advantage in the lie. This proverb
promotes the positive power of telling the truth.

It honestly and clearly shows us the two practical advantages that always lie
with the truth. He who walks in integrity walks securely. He who perverts his
way will be found out.

First, there is real security. That's an advantage in walking in integrity.
Without integrity, it's like you're walking on jello.

You're not quite sure of what's going to hold you up or let you down. Not quite
sure of your way in life. The truth is always rock solid.

And that brings security. That brings peace of mind into our lives. When you
tell the truth, you never have to worry about remembering to whom you told what
lie.

You don't have to manage the lies in your life. Just think of how much less
complicated life is when you just tell the truth. Now, there's a second
advantage to telling the truth in these verses.

The second advantage is you're going to be found out in the end anyway. He who
perverts his way will be found out. It's not like you're going to get away with
it.

We always think we are. I mean, that's our pride as human beings, is we figure
I'm going to get away with telling this lie. No one's ever going to find out.

In the end, it's always all going to be known. Now, I don't know if that's scary
to you. It should be refreshing to you.

It should help you to live life in a different way. Because you know that before
God, your Father, and since everything's going to be known in the end, you may
as well today tell him the truth in your prayers to him, and you may as well
tell others the truth as you talk with them. Now, we've been talking about
telling the truth just sort of on a philosophical basis, but let's get personal.

There's a tough question in all of this. Is there a lie that somehow you've been
torturing yourself to keep covered? I encourage you to do what might be the
bravest thing you've ever done.

Ask God for the courage. Ask God for the strength to tell the truth. That starts
with him.

How do I find the strength to tell the truth? How do I get past my fear of
telling the truth? It starts with God.

You tell him the truth first. So let's do that right now in prayer. Just say to
him, "Father, I've been afraid to admit it to myself.

I've been afraid to admit it to anybody else. So I start with you. Here is the
truth.

Here's the truth of what I've been facing in my life. Here's the truth of what
I've been feeling in my life. Here's the truth of the wrong decisions I've been
making.

Here's the truth of the mistake that I made that I haven't wanted to own up to.
Here's the truth. God, now I've said it.

I've said it to you, but that's not enough. You've told me I need to walk in
integrity and tell the truth to those that are affected, those that might have
been hurt, those that have been influenced. God, I'm scared to do that.

I need your strength to do that. I pray you'd give me that strength. Remind me
that when I walk in integrity, right now, even though I feel like telling the
truth is going to make life scary, it's going to make security in my life, build
security in.

And so I pray that I would be strengthened by the fact that your security will
guide me. Help me, God, to walk in integrity, to walk in your truth. In your
name, I pray.
