Hi, welcome to Daily Drive Time Devotions, this is Pastor Tom Holliday. Today
we're going to look at one verse out of chapter 16, and again I'm hoping that
you are reading the chapters, the entire chapter each day as we do this, as our
study together through the book of Proverbs in this month, and we're picking out
one verse in the chapter to focus on each day. The verse we're going to focus on
today is Proverbs 16 verse 9.

That verse says, "In his heart a man plans his course, but the Lord determines
his steps. " In this current age of day planners and Microsoft Outlook and all
the different ways we have to organize our lives, you'd think that living life
on schedule would be a cinch. And yet, something still seems to be lacking.

The marketers of all those different products would have you believe that if you
could just get the right organizational tool, your life would automatically be
in perfect order. But have you noticed that God's plans always don't fit into
your day timer? Sometimes God surprises us.

Often he is doing something bigger than we could imagine. Now planning is a
valuable tool, no doubt about that. We should use that tool, calendars and other
things like that, in planning and seeing how God can help us to understand the
living out of his daily direction for our lives.

There's nothing wrong with planning, however, there is a four-word factor that
we should never forget in any of our planning. These four words should be on the
top of every page of your planner. They should jump out from your computer
screen each time you open your calendar.

What are those four words? God is in control. God is in control.

Instead of starting your day with a prayer that says, "Lord, here are all the
things I need to do today. Will you help me? Will you bless me?

Will you help me to get through all of them? " Pray instead, "Lord, you are in
control and I am available. Help me to use this day to honor you, to do your
will.

" And as you do that, just watch, just wait, you'll see that annoying
distractions turn into anointed directions, that what you thought was the wrong
direction for your life that day, all of a sudden is God's direction for your
life that day. As we take a look at what that means in our daily lives today,
I'd like to take a moment to talk to God together. Would you pray with me?

Father, we thank you. We thank you that whether we see it or not, the truth is
you are in control. Every circumstance of our life today, everything we're going
to face, ultimately you're in control.

Now, God, I understand, we understand that people don't do your will always,
that they choose to not follow you, but you're even in control of that. In the
end, you will judge who needs to be judged, you will cause things to work out as
they need to work out, justice will prevail. And so right now, we choose to
count on that today.

As we think about our calendar, our schedule, what has to happen today, or we
realize that if we plan our course, it's just going to be all that we can do.
But when we recognize that it's you who determines our steps, we're going to be
living out the life that you've called us to live. So today, Lord, I pray you'd
help us to live out the joy, the peace, the grace, the life that you've called.

Help us to live out the fact that you are in control. We pray this in Jesus'
name. Amen.
