We are focusing on the 18th chapter of the book of Proverbs today, and the verse we're looking at today is Proverbs 18 verse 10. That verse says, "The name of the Lord is a strong tower. The righteous run to it and are safe. " Years ago, when we went to China to minister to some of the churches there, I had an opportunity to go and see the great wall of China for myself. I'd always heard that it was an amazing structure, and it is, it's amazing. Nothing but walls and gates and towers as far as the eye can see, and even hundreds of years after it was built, you can still see the strength in that structure, mile after mile after mile of fortification and protection. Proverbs 18, 10 tells us that God is a strong tower. God is our protector. Not mile after mile, but I'd say it this way, trial after trial, God is our strong tower. God is our protector. Moment after moment, hour after hour, circumstance after circumstance, surgery after surgery, disappointment after disappointment, God is a strong tower. He is faithful. He is trustworthy. If you read through the pages of history recorded in Scripture, you see time and time again God's faithful hand at work, saving His people, giving His people security. Just the name of God expresses the strength of God. It's in His name that we have power and victory and faith and hope and love. The name of the Lord is a strong tower. That's who God is, but what about us? What about you? What are you going to do about that? The last part of the verse talks about that, "The righteous run to it and are safe. " If you found a strong tower in the midst of an uncertain world, what do you do? You run to it and because of that, you're safe. I don't know about you, but that phrase "run to it," that challenges me. Do I run to God to find safety? Do you run to God to find safety? Oftentimes, we first look to other things or to people to sort of sedate our anxieties. And after we've tried other things first, maybe we say, "This isn't working," and we say, "Oh, I'll try God. Maybe He can help me in this circumstance. I'll try prayer. I'll finally trust in Him. " This verse says, "First, you run to God. Immediately, you run to God. " You recognize that's where the strength is. It's your first response. It's your energetic response. You run to Him. What are you going to do today? That's the question. When you find yourself becoming anxious today, when you feel insecure today, what are you going to do? Run to Him. Don't wait. Don't walk. Run to your Heavenly Father who waits with open arms to give you safety and comfort. Let's run to Him right now. Our Father, when I feel insecure, it's easy to run around to all other kinds of places. It's easy to run towards things that I might feel I'm good at to make myself feel better. It's easy to run towards places where I'm tempted to make myself feel better. It's easy to run to the wrong places. It's easy to run around doing nothing. God, when I feel insecure, when I need a place of safety, I can run to You. Remind me that You are the strong tower. You are the place of security. You're the place of protection. You're the place of strength. So God, right now, in my heart, I run to You. I run to Your safety, to Your strength, to Your love. Pray this in Jesus' name, Amen.
