pictures that Proverbs chapter 2 verses 2 to 4 give us about how wisdom begins
to work its way into our lives. You notice the pictures?

Tune your ears. Imagine trying to tune in a radio station that's just a little
bit fuzzy. You slowly click or turn the knob one way until the station maybe
finally comes in just right.

Well these verses remind us that wisdom is like that. It often feels like I just
don't quite have it yet. But if you keep tuning, if you keep listening, it does
begin to come in clearly.

And the moment you hear it clearly for the first time, the moment you get it,
there's a spiritual thrill to that. It is always worth it. It's always worth
your time to keep tuning until you hear God's wisdom clearly.

And that's what we're going to be doing together as we walk through this book of
Proverbs. You tune your ears. You cry out for insight.

There's a lot of real emotion behind genuine wisdom. A lot of people think of
wisdom as some sort of dry, intellectual, logical pursuit. No, you cry out for
insight.

Those who would just like to have God's wisdom, they rarely find it. But those
who know they have to have God's wisdom, they are desperate for God's wisdom,
they are well on the way to finding God's wisdom. You cry out for it.

In fact, the next picture reminds us of the same thing. You search for wisdom
like you would for lost money. Think of the energy that a teenager would put
into looking for his or her first paycheck if it had become lost.

Give that kind of heart to your search for wisdom. The bottom line is this.
Wisdom that comes from God does not come immediately or come quickly.

It does not come automatically. It takes time to tune in. It takes heart to cry
out.

It takes energy to keep searching. But your time and your heart and your energy
are always rewarded with the greatest of gifts, genuine wisdom from God. Let's
take a moment to pray together and talk to him.

Our father, we thank you that you want to give us your wisdom. We want to take a
moment today to thank you for the process by which you give us wisdom. It is not
just something we look up on the internet and then we have it.

Or we push a button and then we've got it. Or we take a pill and then we
understand it. Or we read one verse and it's all figured out for us.

But it's a process of growth. And it does come gradually sometimes. But as it
comes, we're growing closer to you.

Wisdom is a process of growing closer to you. And so I pray that as we walk
through these chapters together in the book of Proverbs, we would not just learn
new things about you, but we would grow closer to you. And I pray, we pray this
together in Jesus' name.
