(upbeat music) - Welcome to Daily Drive Time Devotions to our study together of
the book of Proverbs. We're in Proverbs chapter three today. I hope that as
we're reading through each chapter and doing a couple of verses in each chapter,
that you're joining in in your personal devotional life in the morning or in the
evening and you're reading the entire chapter.

That's the way you're going to get the most out of this. If maybe you listen to
this in the morning or evening and then some other time during the day, you pick
up a Bible and today we're looking at Proverbs chapter three, you read the
entire chapter. We're focusing on a couple of verses from the chapter each day.

Today, Proverbs chapter three, we're focusing on some very familiar verses in
the Bible to many people. Proverbs chapter three, verses five and six. One of my
favorite passages in all the book of Proverbs is these two verses from chapter
three.

Let me read them to you. Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on
your own understanding.

Seek his will in all that you do and he will direct your paths. I love these
verses. They so clearly tell us where the direction that I need, that you need,
that we need for everyday life is going to come from.

Those words, he will direct your paths, are among, to me, the most comforting
and the most empowering of all the phrases of the Bible. He will direct your
paths. Yet most people I talk to have a genuine desire to know God's direction.

We want to know the path that he wants us to be on and this verse stands as God's
promise that instead of just having to guess at his direction, I can be
confident that he will give his direction. Now, one of the most practical ways I
can do that is by listening to what the earlier part of this verse says. I have
to trust in the Lord instead of my own understanding.

That means I allow, that means I allow the Bible to become the checkpoint for
all of my decisions. That's what I've found this really comes down to in
everyday life. God's given me his word and in his word I can find his truth.

So if I'm making a decision, I allow the Bible to become a checkpoint for that
decision. You might be making a decision right now about family, about housing,
about business, about school, about whatever. I encourage you to make the Bible
a checkpoint for that decision.

I have found again and again that when I'm facing an important decision, if I'll
just pray God show me the right way from the truth in the Bible, he does. It
seems when I pray that every chapter I read or every teaching or every word of
advice that I hear over the next few days points me in the right direction about
that decision. You may be listening to this at a very important decision point
in your life.

I encourage you pray that prayer for God's direction and then begin to listen.
Now, as you listen for his direction, it's interesting. Sometimes he clearly
says, this is what you must do.

You're saying, God, I want to move. Should I move to Kansas City? And you hear
God say to you, yes, it's Kansas City.

That happens sometimes. I've found many times in my life, God says, yes, I want
you to move but you could choose from two or three different cities, four or
five different cities. I'm not telling you exactly which city.

There's ways I could use you in different places. That makes some people
uncomfortable because they'd rather have God's will be a little narrower than
that. But the truth is God's will is incredibly broad sometimes because the
broadness of who God is, the greatness of who God is.

And he can work in great ways in a variety of circumstances in your life. So
don't put God in a box and say, hey, you've got to give me this kind of answer
and it's got to be by now. Recognize he will direct your path.

He'll show you the right way to go, the right steps to take. As you're thinking
about a decision that you needed to make in your life right now, I encourage
you, let's pray right now that prayer for God's direction. And as you pray,
realize the answer may not be what you expected.

In fact, it probably won't be what you expected. But you will never regret
listening to and then trusting in God's direction. And so God, as we pray right
now, we pray back these verses to you.

Help us to trust in you with all our heart. Help us not to depend on our own
understanding. Help us to seek your will in all that we do.

Help us to start there. And once we've done those things, help us to depend on
you to direct our paths. Right now in the decision that I'm facing, God, I pray
that you would direct my path.

Help me to know what to do next. Help me not to forget to trust in you, to
depend on you, to seek you. And as I do that, help me to understand, to know
what to do next that would please you, that would honor you, that would show the
world something of what you're like.

I trust you with this decision. I would like the answer in a moment. But God, I
realize it might take longer than that.

I even trust you with the timing of how you helped me to make this decision. I'm
deciding right now to make this decision with your guidance, to check it by your
word, to ask other believers to listen to you. Direct me, guide me into your
paths, I pray.
