(upbeat music) This is day four together of our walk through Revelation chapter
19. We're looking at these events and these occurrences in this chapter that put
everything in perspective. We've looked at the word hallelujah, we've looked at
our need to worship God, but we're also looking at events.

The first event that we looked at amongst these five that are in Revelation 19
and 20 was the wedding supper of the Lamb and how that puts my perspective right
today. It helps me to see the church for what it really is when I know where the
church is headed. A second event that puts life in perspective today is the
visible return of Jesus Christ.

This is the moment of victory that you've been waiting for. In Revelation
chapter 19 verses 11 to 16, listen to what happens. I saw heaven standing open
and there before me was a white horse whose rider is called faithful and true
with justice he judges and makes war.

His eyes are like blazing fire and on his head are many crowns. He has a name
written on him that no one knows but he himself. He is dressed in a robe dipped
in blood and his name is the word of God.

The armies of heaven were following him riding on white horses and dressed in
fine linen, white and clean. Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword which to
strike down the nations. He will rule them with an iron scepter.

He treads the wine press of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. On his robe
and on his thigh, he has this name written, King of Kings and Lord of Lords. And
these verses, this moment of the visible return of Christ for all to see, this
reflects what Jesus himself told us.

In Matthew 24 verse 30, at that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in
the sky and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of
Man coming on the clouds of the sky with power and with great glory. This is not
the rapture which only believers will see, many believe.

This is the visible return where all the world will see. Now of all the
questions that we have about this moment, which is the most important? Many of
us when we think of this moment when this will happen, many of us focus on the
when and the where.

But the most important questions are not the when and the where. Jesus himself
said, "I don't know exactly when. " It's up to the Father.

The most important questions are why. Why will this happen? Because God's going to
put all of human history in order.

And the even more important question than the why is the who. As we talked about
yesterday, it is all focused on God. It's all focused on Jesus Christ.

And in these verses, it's focused on the who. It's focused on who is coming
again. The description is all about Jesus Christ and he is the one who is coming
again.

Let's just walk through that description together. Let's just sort of walk
through what God says about Jesus Christ in these verses as he comes again in
victory and in glory. As he comes to set everything right for all eternity.

First, the picture is that he is a rider on a white horse. This is an amazing
picture for anyone who would have read it in the first century. It's a picture
of triumph.

In a Roman triumph, when an army had triumphed over some invader, some army on
the outskirts of Rome, they would come back and they would have a victory parade
in Rome. They'd go up the main street of Rome and to the Roman Forum and to the
Temple of Jupiter. And the general of a victorious army rode in this great
procession.

First would come the spoils of war, all the material goods, and then the
captives from that war. And then right in the middle of this procession would be
the general, followed by his family and then his army. And the general, the
general always was on a white horse.

So anybody reading this in the first century would have known, you see this
picture of a white horse. They know it's a picture of victory. And so God has
Jesus riding on a white horse in this moment to show us and to show them that
Jesus Christ rides in victory.

This is a moment of ultimate victory. This is, the battle is over. It's done.

It's finished. And he is victorious. As you walk through this description of
Jesus Christ, we're going to see his names in these verses.

His name first is faithful and true. I can trust him. He is faithful.

I can count on him. Everything that he says is true. That is true in your life
today.

That's going to be true for all of eternity. And his faithfulness, his truth is
going to be seen in this moment. All who have said, "Oh, he won't set things
right.

" All who have said, "Jesus is never coming again. " All who have said, "It's a
lie, there is no God. " They're going to see in this moment, he is faithful.

He is true. He will do exactly as he has said. As you continue to walk through
these descriptions, his eyes, his eyes are bright like flames of fire.

You see the passion of God in the eyes of Jesus Christ. You see the purity of
God in the eyes of Jesus Christ. The Bible says that on his head, I love this,
are many crowns.

Now my question is, how many? And I believe the answer is all of them. That's
how many.

He wears all of the crowns. Just think of how many crowns there are in this
world today. A crown is a symbol of leadership.

Someone who's in authority. Think of how many crowns there are. Not only the
powers and the super powers, but the countries that you've never heard of.

Where somebody wears a crown, somebody's in authority. What they do, what they
say goes. And not only in countries, but also in counties, also in, also in
businesses.

Not only in businesses, but also in families and schools. There's authorities in
every one of those institutions of society. Every one of those crowns is going to
be on the head of Jesus Christ at the end of time.

He is the ruler of anything and everything. At the end of time, exactly what
will happen is, everyone else who thinks they've been in control, who thinks
they have their little kingdom, they're going to find out it is not mine at all. It
is his.

It doesn't matter what maneuverings we do on this earth. It doesn't matter who
we think is powerful or who we think is Lord. At the end of time, in one sense,
the whole board gets wiped clean and Jesus Christ is the Lord.

And the clock is running on that. I don't know when that clock is going to run out.
There will be a moment in human history when this happens.

And when it happens, every knee will bow, every tongue will confess Jesus Christ
is Lord. It's inevitable. He gets all the crowns.

Many crowns are on his head. As you go on through this description, it says a
name is written on him that only he understood. I love this as well.

Even here at the end, there will be more to Jesus than you and I can understand.
Only he understands this name because he's God. There are things about who Jesus
is that only Jesus will ever understand because he's greater than I will ever
be.

So he has this name that only he understands amidst his other names that we're
going to see in just a moment. He's clothed with a robe that's dipped in blood. A
picture here, I believe, of what happened on the cross.

Some think this is about the battle that he's in, but I believe it's about the
cross. And throughout human history, and now throughout eternal history, the
blood of Christ is glorified because it is what brings us to him. It brings us
to our relationship with him because he sacrificed his life for us.

His title, as we continue to walk through this, was the Word of God. John tells
us this in the gospel that he wrote. Now he's seeing this revelation.

And he'd written down in his gospel, inspired by the Holy Spirit, "In the
beginning was the Word, "and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. " In
John chapter one. And now here he's seeing it, revealed in the book of
Revelation again.

His title, it's the Word of God. He is God's message to us. He is God's Word to
us.

And the idea of God's Word here is that he is God's person come to us. God in
person. He is God himself.

As you continue to read through this description, it says the armies of heaven
are following him. Some people think that these armies of heaven are angels, an
angelic army. Others think that the armies are believers because they're dressed
in fine linen.

They're white and clean. The purity of believers. I think that's very possible.

And maybe for some of you men listening to this, this is good for you because we
talked about the wedding supper of the lamb yesterday, and we talked about you
being part of the bride of Christ, and that was hard for you to accept. Well,
you're also part of the army of God. So we're both.

And when you see that, you get a complete picture of who God is and what he's
doing in our lives. Out of the mouth of Jesus comes a sharp sword. Jesus is
coming, and he's coming as a judge.

Now if I've come to him in faith, I've already passed out of judgment into life,
the Bible tells us. But if I have not trusted him, I face him as a judge.
Because he is, on his robe and on his thigh, there's this other name written.

He is the King of Kings. He is the Lord of Lords. This is what the second coming
is all about.

It's the second coming of Jesus Christ. Let's pray together. Jesus, help us not
to get so caught up in the when and the where, that we forget the who.

It's you. Jesus Christ, you are coming again. In this description, it just
begins to touch on who you are.

And we could study this description the rest of our lives and never plumb the
depths of all that's here. You are the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. You are
the word of God.

Your robe is dipped in blood because you've given yourself for us. And the
crowns, they are all yours. You are faithful and true.

You are victorious, Jesus Christ. And we worship you. Help us in our lives
today.

So whatever we're walking through to focus on the fact that this is the end of
history, it will be all summed up in who you are. And whatever discouragement we
might be facing, whatever confusion we might be facing, help this moment to put
our lives, our history into perspective right now. We pray this in your name,
Jesus.
